Young Mother Records Heartbreaking Video For Baby Boy Before Giving Him Up For Adoption

Most people would agree that there is nothing worse than losing a child. However, a child passing away is certainly not the only way in which you can lose them.

Indeed, sometimes people make the difficult – but necessary – decision to give up their parental rights entirely so that their child will have a better chance in life.

Twenty-one-year-old Hannah Mongie from Utah did just that and even recorded a very moving video of the last few moments she spent alone with her newborn baby. Ultimately, Mongie gave him up for adoption two days after his birth in March 2016.

The video which was posted on Facebook has been seen millions of times from people all around the world who are both devastated and moved by the poignant clip.

Take a look at the very touching clip for yourself:

Mongie was only 18 years old when she found out she was pregnant. She had been with her boyfriend, Kaden Whitney, only two months and neither of them were prepared to become parents.

Tragically, Whitney, a church missionary, passed away in his sleep two months later, from natural causes.

Before his untimely death, the young couple had already settled on adoption as the best way of going about the situation. However, after he died, Mongie was in two minds about whether or not to go ahead with the adoption.

After Mongie gave birth to her son Taggart, the young mother spent 48 hours alone with him before handing him over to his new, adoptive parents, Emily and Brad Marsh.

Mongie used these two days to record the video explaining her reasoning behind the very difficult decision to give her son up for adoption.

“I made this video, so you know how much I love you,” Mongie said at the start of the clip. “I wanted to tell you why I made the decision to place you with your family. Gosh, you’re so cute, you’re making this hard!”

The clip became viral when it was shared on the Love What Matters Facebook page earlier this month.

“I couldn’t think,” she said to her son in the emotional nine-minute video, “From the day your Daddy died I had a hard time even considering placing you with a different family when you were my last piece of Kaden.”

“But one day I woke up and just knew you were supposed to be with someone else,” she continued.

Luckily, Mongie opted for an open adoption agreement with Emily and Brad Marsh and so regularly sees Taggart and often babysits him.

Emily and Brad Marsh already had two adoptive children so Mongie, who met the couple via adoption.com, felt that they were the perfect match.

Although it is great that Mongie is in a position where she is still able to see her child, it was nevertheless an incredibly difficult decision to give her son up for adoption.

In tears, Mongie tells her baby boy, “If I didn’t love you I wouldn’t be in the position at all and you wouldn’t have this awesome family.”

“I’m going to give you all the kisses I can before I sign you away to Brad and Emily,” she lovingly explains. “I love you Taggart Cayden Marsh. My little boy. My son. I love you so much. Love your mommy, Hannah.”

Here Mongie explains in further detail why she and Kaden believed adoption was the best route to go down in their particular situation:

“I’ve wanted to be a mom my whole life, it was something I always knew I would do but the timing was so wrong. We had only been dating for two months so we knew we couldn’t get married, it was too early in our relationship, even for the sake of a baby.

We went back and forward, but eventually Kaden said that we needed to do what was best for the baby and in our case we felt like that was adoption. When we came to that decision together we felt an immense amount of peace about it.”

“It completely shattered my world when Kaden’s mom called my mom with the news that he had passed away in his sleep. After he died I didn’t get out of bed for weeks. I didn’t open the blinds. My parents began to get worried about me, and although they said they’d support me no matter what, they began to speak about our decision to place my baby up for adoption.

My dad just said what Kaden and me had already talked about, that our baby deserved to wake up in his crib and have both a mom and dad there to love him. I was so torn about it for a while but one day I woke up and I just felt this unexplainable peace. I knew I was going to do this. It was what was best for our baby.’

Making life-changing choices is a normal part of life, however, most of us will not have to make the decision to give up our own flesh and blood for adoption. It takes a lot of courage to make such a selfless decision and for that this young woman should be commended.
