We’ve all had the experience of getting a terrible passport or driving license photo and have had to live with the consequences of it for the years that follow.
Whether it’s zits, your eye deciding it’s going to be bloodshot for the day, or just a bad hair day, it’s rare that we like our passport photos, but we can deal with them. At the end of the day, it’s pretty much impossible to look good in that lighting and pulling such a gormless expression, isn’t it?
That’s what I constantly tell myself anyway.
While the majority of us hate our passports because we think they make us look ugly, one unlucky woman from Austin, Texas, appears to be on the end from some serious trolling from the passport office, and makes our passport photos look like modelling headshots.
Chelsey Ramos, 27, needed to get her passport renewed before setting off on a trip to Germany for her boyfriend’s 30th birthday. Her boyfriend, Reece Lagunas, had to apply for his passport, so the couple headed down to their local Costco to get their photos taken. While the photos they got back from the machine turned out fine, what Ramos got back from the State Department is, well, not fine.
Ramos was happy with her the photo she had taken (well, as happy as you can be with you passport photo), take a look at it below:
However, her boyfriend Reece describes the moment that her physical passport actually came through. Lagunas says that Ramos immediately screamed “Oh my f***ing God… no they didn’t!”
“I ran in to see what was the matter and just started laughing,” he said. “Uncontrollable giggling.”
It’s pretty easy why they found it hilarious, take a look at the passport that Ramos received below, and be prepared to laugh.
Naturally, Lagunas decided to put an image of both the photos on Reddit (because, internet) and the post went viral. Reddit being Reddit, there were continuous jokes made about her conehead, and of course, there was some brilliant photoshopping skills on display.
Luckily for Ramos, Lagunas said that she now now has a normal passport, but also got to keep the conehead one, you know, for the laughs.
“The man that helped her was super helpful,” he said. “I think he pulled up the photo on his computer and also had a laugh — told her it was obviously their mistake, and provided her with all the info to get it taken care of.”
Ramos said neither she nor her boyfriend “expected for this to get as much traction as it has.” But is happy that it has done, as the world needs a bit of cheering up right now: “It’s just been fun,” she said. “We’ve all needed something extra to laugh about the last seven months, and this has helped.”
Amazing stuff. If I was Ramos, I would’ve just kept the passport and used it at border control, just to see their faces more than anything. Anyway, to see some more examples of Reddit getting ahead of itself on photoshop, why not check out these epic photoshop battles
