When Jackie Nguyen and Nate Huntley first got engaged, they were determined to churn out the best and most unconventional engagement photos possible.
But the loved-up couple from New York’s Astoria, Queens, weren’t interested in taking your typical, contrived engagement photos, filled with fake smiles and unnatural poses.
Nope, Jackie and Nate, who just so happen to be huge film and television fans, wanted their engagement photos to feature them dressed as some of their favorite movie duos. After much careful thought and meticulous brainstorming, they settled on a very diverse range of characters from all kinds of movies. And the movies they selected all have one thing in common: they’re all undeniable classics.
From Titanic‘s Jack and Rose to Captain America and Peggy Carter, these Hollywood-inspired photos are truly spectacular.
So without further ado, here are Jackie and Nate dressed up as some of the most iconic duos in cinematic history.
1. Daniel and Miranda Hillard from Mrs. Doubtfire
“Because we are also ballin’ on a budget, we made sure we only bought from thrift stores to cut down on costs,” Jackie told the Huffington Post. “Luckily, we have a lot of friends in the arts who had lots of costume pieces for us to borrow. The Mrs. Doubtfire wig is borrowed from an old Broadway production!”
2. Harry and Marv from Home Alone
“Nate and I are huge nerds,” Jackie said. “We are completely obsessed with the majority of couples we paid tribute to and have a genuine love for being a bit kooky. We’ve even tried to invite Macaulay Culkin to our wedding using our photos. Not sure if he’ll accept, but it’s worth a shot.”
3. Jack and Rose from Titanic
“Nate had the most fun doing the Titanic look because what went into getting that shot was absolutely bonkers,” Nguyen said. “We were holding back our laughter so much because it was just ridiculous.”
“We had to find a pool, at a gym, that either no one was in (so they wouldn’t feel uncomfortable with us taking photos there) and legitimately try to achieve an angle that emulated the infamous scene well enough, while wearing wigs, heavy makeup, and trying to appear sad and frozen to capture one of the most dramatic scenes ever!”
4. BoJack and Diane from BoJack Horseman
BoJack Horseman is an adult cartoon about a humanoid horse and Diane is an author who is chosen to write his autobiography. Sounds like true love to me…
5. Linus and Sally from It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown is a well-loved animated television special, based on Charles M. Schulz’s infamous comic strip Peanuts. Jackie and Nate did a pretty good job, don’t you think?
6. Marty McFly and Doc Brown from Back To The Future
“We had a very, very, very small budget and what helped us stay within the realms of affording a big project was having it spread out throughout a year,” Jackie said. “There are a lot of wigs used throughout, many of which I already owned. I did my own hair and makeup for the entirety of the shoot except for the Titanic look. Thankfully, both Nate and I have a theatre background so hair and makeup don’t feel weird to us.”
7. Thor and Harry Potter from Thor and Harry Potter
“We originally thought we would just dress up as Thor and Harry Potter,” Jackie explained. “But then, we sat on our couch and started to name other people we wanted to dress up as, and it became the funniest conversation.”
A single shot of Harry Potter because this wizard don’t need no man…
8. Ellie Sattler and Alan Grant from Jurassic Park
“The other dynamic duos stem from our favorite movies and shows, Home Alone, Jurassic Park, Mrs. Doubtfire, The Office, etc.,” Jackie told BuzzFeed.
“We quote these movies/shows almost on a daily basis and tried to think of the funniest/coolest people we would want to be or meet one day.”
9. Michael Scott and Dwight Schrute from The Office
Now, this might be a bit of a stretch but just like how Michael Scott and Dwight Schrute met in a working environment, so did Jackie and Nate. They’re both actors and met back in 2014 in a production of Miss Saigon.
“We had a cute two-month romance and parted ways because we both had different shows that were contracted for different parts of the U.S., thinking nothing would come of it,” Jackie told HuffPost.
10. Peggy Carter and Captain America from Captain America
“My fiancé and I are extremely outside of the box, and felt like traditional photos wouldn’t encompass the fun or adventure we like to have,” Jackie told BuzzFeed.
11. Yoko Ono and John Lennon
“We owe a lot of thanks to our photographer,” Jackie said. “Not only is he wildly talented, but damn, is he funny.”
Yes, it goes without saying that Jackie and Nate are truly masters in the world of cosplay, so hopefully we’ll be hearing lots more from them. They’re clearly very in tune with one another and obviously have a great sense of humor, which all marriages would benefit from having.
We wish the stunning couple the best of luck for their upcoming nuptials.
