Is it just me, or isn't the first rule of Fight Club not to talk about fight club?! Surely it's against the rules to get your camera phone out, film it, and put it on YouTube? Well that's exactly what these New Zealand prisoners did during a friendly game of "smack the living shit out of each other".
The Mount Eden Correctional Facility in New Zealand has come under fire after a series of videos surfaced showing inmates engaging in 'fight club' like scenarios. The prison is run by a private British company called Serco, under whose ownership inmate violence has skyrocketed. Other videos show inmates taking drugs and drinking alcohol, which makes you wonder... what do Serco actually do for the 10-year $300 million NZD ($196 million) contract they signed in 2011.
Brutal, frightening and harrowing, these scenes are not for the faint-hearted.
If watching Orange Is The New Black has taught me anything, it's that you should probably steer well clear of the dangerous types in prison. Take up carpentry, work in the kitchen, but probably don't get involved in an underground fight club. I for one would be the square taking an Open University course and keeping well out of trouble. In another pretty hard to watch video, this Dad forces his son to fight a pro boxer after finding out that he has been bullying younger kids.
