The ‘It’ Sequel Is Set To Be More Terrifying Than You Could Have Possibly Imagined

But, the sequels plot isn't the only thing causing great excitement, as Muschietti has also made some hints with regard to the future casting. If he stays true to his word, this casting will be pure magic...

When talking to Variety during publicity rounds, it was suggested to Muschietti that Jessica Chastain be cast as Beverly in the sequel, as it was pointed out that she resembles Sophia Lillis, who plays Beverly in the first film.

Muschietti and Chastain have worked together before on the 2013 horror film, Mama. So, when this observation was made, Muschietti didn't totally discredit it. Instead, he simply said:

“She loves the movie and it feels like the planets are aligned in that sense, but we still have to make that happen. There are a lot of ideas for the rest of the cast that I’m playing with, but it’s a bit too premature to say those names right now.”

Even without a star-studded cast, the sequel is set to be a hit, simply based on the success of the first film, which cost $35 million to make and has already grossed $198 million worldwide. The movie grossed more money than Deadpool on its opening previews, and on its opening day It nearly eclipsed Paranormal Activity 3's whole first weekend.

It's safe to say that commercially the film is a huge success, something that is not commonly expected from horror film, which appeals to a smaller portion of society, as opposed to other genres.

Could It be the movie to make horror mainstream? With its critical and commercial success, it is easy to see a shift. Could horror be the new chick flick? Only time will tell...
