In a world of relentlessly depressing global-political news stories, it sure can be nice to have a little bit of light relief every now and then to forget, albeit momentarily, the problems and strife facing the world in 2017.
Robert Downey Jr is one of the world’s most recognisable faces, having appeared in many of the past decade’s biggest box office hits, including films like the Iron Man trilogy, The Avengers and Captain America: Civil War. Until last year, he was the world’s highest paid actor, according to Reuters
Now, the 51 year-old actor has inadvertently provided the internet with one of the best moments of 2017 so far, and the photo isn’t even particularly recent, actually dating back to 2009.
A paparazzi snap from 2009 shows Downey Jr along with his wife Susan and other Hollywood actors enjoying a sun-drenched vacation, in seemingly innocent fashion.
The pooch’s photo-bomb is subtle; so subtle in fact that it has taken seven years for anyone to pick up on the bizarre scene, which can be seen in the middle-right hand corner of the photograph.
Jamie East, a television presenter, appears to be the first razor sharp observer to have noticed the image, and his tweet, which reads “WTF is Robert Downey Jr’s dog doing?” has been retweeted over 29,000 times since it was first posted on 15th February.
Inevitably, the dog related puns came thick and fast on Twitter, as users reacted to the absurd image, which surely has to go down in history as one of the best-timed photographs since the camera was invented.
Last year, Downey Jr appeared to confirm that he would make at least two more Iron Man films, which has been one of the most successful franchises of the last decade, and has earned the star nearly $200 million dollars in the process, according to The Daily Mail
