Dinklage's popularity on Game of Thrones was revealed when he was voted 'Best GoT' character in a Spinzwin poll of 2,400 fans - beating the Mother of Dragons, Daenerys Targaryen, to the top spot.
This is what Dinklage had to say about how he got his distinctive scar:
"I was in a band called Whizzy for many years in New York… We played a show at CBGB, and I was jumping around onstage and got accidentally kneed in the temple.
"I was like Sid Vicious, just bleeding all over the stage. Blood was going everywhere. I just grabbed a dirty bar napkin and dabbed my head and went on with the show.
"Now I have a pretty big scar that runs from the my neck to my eyebrow."
Dinklage, who has been hailed as an esteemed actor in Hollywood, almost never auditioned for the part of Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones after he was initially reluctant to take the role because he didn't want to be cast as a "fantasy dwarf" and be forced to wear "a long beard and pointy shoes".
Thankfully, he happily accepted the captivating role when he learned more about his now famous character.
"They told me about his complexity, the fact that he wasn't a hero or a villain," he said, "that he was a womanizer and a drinker, and they painted a flawed and beautiful portrait of him, so I signed on."
Here Dinklage is playing the trumpet in Whizzy.
As well being the lead singer for the band, Dinklage also played the cornet – you can see from the photograph above.
Sadly, there is no footage of Whizzy in their glory days currently available, however, that's more than likely to change now that this story has broken. Surely there must be some shaky camcorder footage from a diehard Whizzy fan out there?
Even if there is no footage, we totally think that Dinklage should team up with the band formed by Tormund, Ser Jorah, Beric And The Hound.
And speaking of Tyrion Lannister, check out this remarkable time-lapse footage of this hyperreal portrait created entirely in pen:
It's hard to believe that the video above took the artist over 20 hours to complete!
