Newlywed Couldn’t Stop Scratching Her Itchy Skin, But The Cause Is Not What They Were Expecting…

The last thing you expect to happen when you’re young and healthy is to suddenly fall ill. People in their twenties take risks with their health because they think can. It’s only later in life that they come to regret them. I’ve been in the unusual position of growing up with people who fell seriously ill at a young age, so it’s something I could never do.

Around six years ago, I signed up to be an organ donor because I’ve seen first-hand how sickness shows no mercy when to comes to people – regardless of their age. The worst thing about illnesses is that they often rear their ugly heads as symptoms that are hard to diagnose. That’s what happened to this English newlywed…

Have You Taken Any Risks With Your Health?

It doesn’t matter whether you’re 21 or 51, illnesses can strike at any time. Even if you think you’re being paranoid, if you notice something strange about your body, get it checked out. Lucy Crossley hadn’t taken any risks with her health and had no idea that a simple itch would turn out to be something she could have ever predicted…

NEXT: Lucy was in the PRIME of her life when it all started…

Lucy was enjoying life to the fullest prior to the development of her mysterious itch. She was in a happy relationship and had just landed her dream job in London. She had no idea what was just around the corner…

1. Lucy’s Life Was Perfect

Lucy’s dream job was working for a lingerie company. Her boyfriend Liam was also doing well with his career too, working as a successful personal trainer. The couple had so much going for them…

NEXT: Lucy was planning for a VERY big day…

Lucy and Liam were also engaged and were busy saving up for their wedding. She’s pictured here with a friend on her hen night. The last thing on her mind would have been the possibility of getting sick…

2. She Was Saving For Her Wedding

Lucy had so much to be excited about and was looking only to the future. As well as planning for her wedding, she was probably thinking about having children and climbing the career ladder in her dream job…

NEXT: It all started when Lucy SUDDENLY felt unwell…

Whilst Lucy was in London getting ready to start her job, she felt unwell. Needless to say, the first person she contacted was Liam, who was in their hometown of Leeds. This is what he said…

3. She Felt Unwell

“She was in London training for her new job and called me to tell me about it,” Liam revealed in an interview with The Daily Mail. “She was not one to make a fuss, so I knew it must be bad.”

NEXT: This is WHAT made her feel so unwell…

We all fall ill from time to time. Even when it’s a nasty cold or infection, we usually don’t panic. Sickness can be caused by a number of factors and Lucy probably thought along these lines at the time…

4. It Was An Itch

Lucy was suffering from an itch. Itches are very common so she probably didn’t think that there was anything strange going on at first. If you Google what causes itches, Lucy’s final diagnosis isn’t even on the list…

NEXT: But the itch itself was very UNUSUAL…

We all get the occasional itch, but Lucy knew something was up not long after her itch started. It just goes to show that we know our bodies best. If you think something is wrong, it probably is!

5. The Pain Was Overwhelming

This wasn’t your average itch. It was everywhere. Lucy quickly felt the need to scratch her entire body! What on Earth could be causing something this sudden and extreme? She needed answers and quickly.

NEXT: Lucy went to the doctor as SOON as she was able to…

Before she was given a diagnosis, she and Liam discussed what might be causing the terrible, all-consuming itch. They concluded that it was probably a severe allergic reaction to something…

6. The Diagnosis

Lucy sought help at a drop-in health center in London. It just wasn’t right. They told her that it was likely the skin condition known as scabies and prescribed her some lotion to solve the problem…

NEXT: This is what happened after she USED the lotion…

There’s no doubt that Lucy would have been hopeful that the lotion was the answer. Scabies is a nasty disease so it seemed like a reasonable diagnosis. She’d no idea that her ordeal was to continue…

7. Her Skin Was Bleeding

But the lotion wasn’t the answer. In fact, the itching only got worse. “When she got back home in the first week of July, she was making her skin bleed with the scratching,” Liam went onto reveal in the interview.

NEXT: Lucy had no option but to go BACK to the doctor…

Lucy was probably sick of her itch by now. It would have been getting in the way of her every day life; stopping her from making progress in her new job and spending time with her fiancé Liam.

8. Antihistamine

“She went to see her own GP who sent her off with antihistamines, thinking the itch could be allergy-related,” Liam said. Maybe this was finally the diagnosis that Lucy had been looking for! It had to be over soon…

NEXT: Lucy was ANOTHER diagnosis away from the truth…

Just like the lotion, the tablets Lucy was given by her own GP in Leeds did nothing to ease her horrific itch. “By then, her tummy hurt and her skin was unbearably itchy and yellow,” Liam revealed.

9. Nothing Worked

Things got so bad that Lucy had no option but to go to hospital for an ultrasound. “The results were insane,” Liam added. “Her bilirubin level was 395 – it should be 17.” The mysterious itch was causing havoc!

NEXT: Lucy FINALLY got an answer…

Lucy eventually got a diagnosis for what was causing her mysterious itch at hospital. You will be shocked and devastated at what it was. It was something no one could have predicted…

10. A Devastating Revelation

“The moment they told us she had cancer, she broke down,” Liam revealed in his interview with The Daily Mail. “It was such a huge shock. I tried my best not to cry, too – I wanted to be strong for her.”

NEXT: Lucy was given more TRULY devastating news…

With countless new cancer treatments being developed on an almost daily basis, Lucy still had hope. Then she was told the awful and devastating extent of the cancer she’d developed…

11. It Was Too Late

Lucy’s cancer was terminal. That meant surgery wasn’t an option for her and she was likely going to die. The only thing she could do was try chemotherapy in an attempt to reduce the size of the tumor. She had bile duct cancer, also known as cholangiocarcinoma, which affects a person’s liver. That’s why her skin turned yellow.

NEXT: The CAUSE of Lucy’s cancer…

We’re often told to avoid certain things because they cause cancer, like smoking and eating too much red meat, but sometimes people can develop cancer that has no real known cause. That’s what happened to Lucy…

12. The Cause

According to Professor Taylor-Robinson “exposure to certain chemicals produced as a by-product of waste incineration may be associated with [Bile duct] cancer – it has also been associated with industrial spillage.” That’s no answer. Even the professionals were baffled as to its origin. Lucy had just been incredibly unlucky.

NEXT: Lucy was DETERMINED not to let the cancer win…

Despite the devastating diagnosis she’d received, Lucy did not let her illness get her down. Like a true fighter, she started chemotherapy in an attempt to reduce the size of the tumor…

13. Chemotherapy

“She was really confident that this would work; not once did she discuss the possibility of dying,” Liam revealed to The Daily Mail. Lucy was hopeful she was going to beat the odds and live the live she was on track to have.

NEXT: Lucy and Liam went ahead with their WEDDING…

The couple married whilst Lucy took a break from chemotherapy. Looking at their beautiful photographs, you’d never know that Lucy was battling cancer. She looked like any other gorgeous bride on her big day.

14. The Couple Married

“[Lucy] didn’t even look ill. She was the most beautiful bride. She didn’t feel as if there was anything wrong with her,” Liam said, reminiscing about their wedding day. He was right. She looked absolutely stunning!

NEXT: Lucy DIDN’T lose hope during her illness…

A diagnosis like the one Lucy received would devastate most people. Some probably wouldn’t have had the courage to tie the knot until they knew they were going to get better, but Lucy kept on living life to the fullest.

15. She Didn’t Give Up Hope

Lucy went on to enjoy married life with Liam and continued to battle her illness. That meant finishing her course of chemotherapy. It just goes to show how strong she was throughout her whole ordeal.

NEXT: Two months after her wedding, TRAGEDY struck…

Just like when she had been training for her new job in London, Lucy suddenly fell ill before Christmas and she was rushed to hospital. She’d fainted because of her terrible illness…

16. Tragedy Struck

The doctors told Lucy once she was in hospital that the reason she had fainted was because her tumor had caused even more damage. Namely, internal bleeding. The bile ducts are close to the liver and her tumor was pressing down on a vein inside it. The pressure was too much for her body to handle. What happened next is worse…

NEXT: Lucy has NO option but to have an emergency operation…

Whilst surgery wasn’t an option when Lucy was diagnosed, her cancer had progressed to the point where she couldn’t even continue living. Something had to be done so that her liver could function normally…

17. The Doctors Had To Operate

The operation happened around six weeks after Lucy fainted. She must have been scared, but her fighting spirit meant that she went through with it. The doctors were going to perform an operation which would mean that the vein in Lucy’s liver was bypassed, stopping the internal bleeding she’d been suffering from.

NEXT: Here’s what happened DURING the operation…

Surgery like what Lucy went through is not without its risks, especially for someone so sick. But she must have been in a lot of pain and it was the only way she would be able to live a little longer with her illness…

18. Lucy Passed Away

Sadly, Lucy didn’t make it through the operation. Liam said, “She still managed to make my life amazing every single day and did me the honor of becoming my wife and making me the proudest man alive.”

NEXT: Liam’s WISH to honor Lucy’s memory…

Liam spoke of feeling incredibly helpless after Lucy’s death. He was angry that there was nothing he could have done to save the woman he loved. But now he has a wish to help honor this beautiful woman’s memory…

19. Liam’s Wish

“No one can really empathize – but I wouldn’t want people to feel the way I feel,” Liam said to the Metro. “I just want greater awareness of this disease and to prevent any more people suffering the way Lucy and I did.”

NEXT: Read on to find out more about this RARE cancer that took Lucy’s life…

Bile duct cancer is a very rare cancer that has become more prevalent in recent years. The bile ducts are what join up the liver and the small intestine. This cancer is even rarer in young people like Lucy. The youngest recorded case of bile duct cancer was in a child of 12, but it’s most often found in people who’re aged 60 and above.

20. Cholangiocarcinoma Is Rare

Not a lot is known about this disease. That’s why Liam wants to increase awareness, so that we can stop people from suffering like Lucy did. Her mysterious skin rash was hard to diagnose because it was linked so such a rare form of cancer. You can donate to further research at AMMF – The Cholangiocarcinoma Charity.
