Airbnb has revolutionized the hotel industry. Nowadays, when you decide to go on holiday or have a short stay in somewhere, you no longer need to solely rely on hotels and B&Bs that have actual people in them. Oh no. Now you can rent out strangers’ homes.
If you’re a frequent traveler, this can help you feel at home when you’re in a new city (let’s face it, hotels get tiresome after a while), and more often than not, you can bag a bargain through the company, which features properties in just about every shape and size.

Launched in 2008, the concept has grown exponentially in popularity in recent years, and it is a two-way street. If you’ve got a home in a desired location that you know is going to be lying empty, whether it’s just for a night or longer, you can make some extra cash.
In fact, for a select few landlords, Airbnb has become their main source of income, with some people earning millions renting out their properties.
Now, the world’s most successful Airbnb landlord’s annual salary has been revealed, and it’s enough to make anyone want to invest in property!
However, before we reveal who is making a fortune through the service, it’s important to note the importance of location. It doesn’t matter how gorgeous your home is, if it’s not in a place that people want to visit, your potential for making money dramatically decreases.
The company revealed that Bali, Indonesia, is where landlords’ yearly earnings are at their highest.
But it’s worth noting that Bali is not where the landlord with the highest salary is…
Here’s a list of the most lucrative locations for Airbnb landlords. Do you live in any of them? Or would you consider investing in these places?
According to Scott Shatford, the CEO of AirDNA, the whopping earnings of certain landlords are a reflection of the fact that Airbnb is “no longer a community just for individuals renting out their space or properties on their own.”
However, Sharford made a point of saying that many of these “landlords” are in fact businesses in and of themselves.
“These numbers don’t show a multimillionaire sitting on a gold mine. These are businesses that have emerged in this new economy, with hundreds of employees, managing other people’s second homes,” he said.
Despite the fact that it is not the location with the highest average landlord earnings, the world’s most successful Airbnb landlord is located in London. They rent out a whopping 881 properties, new research has revealed.
But there is a downside to the platform making one individual $15.6 million a year. It takes away from what makes the platform so brilliant in the first place: the personal touch.
“It’s not a good trend for people who use Airbnb for unique accommodation as an alternative for a traditional hotel,” Sharford said. “These people want to meet people, and for them, it’s getting harder and harder to decipher what is a corporate rental hotel against the one where Jane is going to meet you at the door and tell you all about the cool things to do in town.”
Pictured below is an Airbnb in Kensington, London, which costs a staggering $1,877 a night.
The company, however, has hit back about these revelations and said that most of their landlords “are regular people who share their homes – typically their greatest expense – to boost their income and support their families.”
Let’s just hope that this is true and that the company retains the personal touch that made it so special in the first place.
