Celebrity parents come under more scrutiny than any other (except maybe for the Royal Family), and unsurprisingly, this makes the whole business of raising a kid that bit more difficult for Mom and Dad. Just think about the level of surveillance the family is cursed to endure.
The tabloids will circle every trip to the movies, every day at Disneyland or vacation abroad, like a flock of pesky vultures, ravenous for some incriminating scrap of evidence that some kind of domestic drama is unfolding. Occasionally, this approach reveals something of genuine concern, but more often than not, it’s just a excuse to pry into celebrities’ personal lives.
It’s been a tough week for reality TV star Kim Kardashian. Just when we thought that she’d finally managed to earn herself a bit of peace and quiet after the hellish time she had last year, she was accused of drug abuse on social media after she posted a supposedly-guilty Snapchat.
Eagle-eyed viewers managed to spot what looked suspiciously like two lines of cocaine on the table behind Kim’s head in the background of her selfie. Kim responded to the unfounded rumours of narcotics use immediately, and informed her critics that the mysterious powder was actually just a pair of marks on the granite table. Furthermore, Kim insisted that she would never stoop to using drugs, citing her children’s welfare as the main reason to stay clean.
Yet no sooner had the queen of reality TV put out that fire, another one appeared. Kim’s little girl North West was spotted wearing what looked like a corset on Wednesday, something that many people were outraged that a four-year-old had been made to wear.
Critics of the outfit alleged that corsets were too sexual for a toddler, and that they can case respiratory complications. Now Kim has responded to these accusations, and has defended North’s infamous garment.
Fending off her critics with aplomb, Kim took to Twitter and revealed that the scandalous “corset” was never a corset at all! It was just an ordinary child’s dress which featured a design that looked like one. “I would never put my daughter in a corset! It’s a dress I bought that is a cotton fabric that laces up & looks like a corset! Just decoration [sic],” stated Kim in a tweet.
Kim also included an accompanying video, where she directly addresses British tabloid newspaper The Daily Mail. “The Daily Mail, this one’s for you,” Kim stated, “This dress that I did not design, I actually bought, is not a corset. It’s just fabric on the front that looks like a corset. So, I think it’s really cute. I bought it from a designer. It’s just fabric, people. It’s not a real corset.”

As you can see, the dress is simply that: a dress. Little North was never in any danger. Plus, she’s a Kardashian: good fashion sense is probably written into her genes. But recently, another celebrity has found their parenting skills come unjustly under fire. Last week, former footballer David Beckham accidentally incited controversy on social media when he elected to kiss his own daughter on the mouth.
