Jim Carrey has had a career of considerable success, appearing in some of the most iconic movies of the last few decades, not least The Truman Show, Bruce Almighty and Dr Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas. He has become renowned for his exuberant, highly energetic acting style; athletic facial expressions and flamboyant gestures have helped to make the 55-year-old one of the finest comic performers of his generation, enjoying success in Hollywood, on stage and beyond with his irreverent, off-beat performances.
Of late though, things haven't exactly been easy for the legendary comedic performer; the tragic death of his girlfriend following an overdose has led to a troubling period for Carrey. He is currently being sued by Mark Burton, who alleges that Carrey used “his immense wealth and celebrity status to illegally obtain and distribute highly addictive and, in this case deadly, controlled substances.”
For his own part, Carrey had, in a statement, vowed not to let himself or his ex-girlfriend be exploited in the wake of her passing;
“What a terrible shame. It would be easy for me to get in a back room with this man’s lawyer and make this go away, but there are some moments in life when you have to stand up and defend your honor against the evil in this world.
“I will not tolerate this heartless attempt to exploit me or the woman I loved.
“Cat’s troubles were born long before I met her and sadly her tragic end was beyond anyone’s control. I really hope someday soon people will stop trying to profit from this and let her rest in peace.”
Cathriona White's mother and ex-husband are believed to be suing Carrey for complicity in her death, and it seems that the actor will not avoid court over the claims that he provided alleged prescription drugs used by White to commit suicide.
