I believe that the modern day technological superhero goes by the name of Elon Musk. He’s the founder of Tesla, which famously created the driverless car. Yeah, I know that his name sounds like a men’s fragrance, and yeah I know, apparently we’re trusting technology to get us around.
Once you can get over the fear of robots taking over our lives, you must be able to appreciate how impressive this technology is. Technology can save lives, after all. Many are hoping that the development of technology will allow us to save many more lives in the future. Driverless cars are tipped to reduce car accidents in the future, as it eliminates human error.
It’s not just Elon Musk who sees the benefit of the driverless car. Manfred Kick was driving a Tesla Model S near Munich, Germany, when he noticed a man driving erratically a Voltswagen on the Autobahn. Realising that he was unconscious, the 41-year-old ensured that the Voltswagen driver was saved.
Allegedly, when Kick realised that the man was unconscious, he pulled in front of the Voltswagen and slowly braked until the cars came to a stop. It’s like Batman meets James Bond. Dramatic, yet life-affirming. Once the cars had come to a stop, Kick entered the car and administered first aid to the driver. Bystanders at the scene of the accident rang the emergency services. It is believed that the Voltswagen driver suffered a stroke.
The total damages came to around 10,000 euros. Thankfully, Tesla creator Elon Musk stepped in. Musk turned to Twitter to offer his congratulations: “Congrats to the Tesla owner who sacrificed damage to his own car to bring a car with an unconscious driver safely to a stop!” Musk also offered to pay for all repair costs as a thank you to Kick and his heroic actions.
As per legislation, German police have launched an investigation into the accident. According to a policeman that is handling the case, it’s unlikely that Kick will receive a fine but may receive an award. Technology can save lives after all. A huge round of applause for Manfred Kick for his heroic actions.
