Ah, where does one begin when it comes to Britney Spears? I mean, she’s only one of the biggest icons that the world has ever seen. Starting her incredible career at the tender age of 16, Britney quickly transgressed all conventions of the young female pop-singer.
Openly channelling her sexuality, Britney gave young girls an alternative to the picture-perfect domesticated role models of her time, and changed the landscape for generations of women to come. While it may have been controversial of Britney to sing Hit Me Baby One More Time at her age, it goes without saying that she was undoubtedly the biggest pop star in the world at one point.
Certainly, Britney is no stranger to controversy, with her name never straying too far from the tabloid headlines. In 2007, Britney acquired the nickname “Britney Shears” after she suffered a highly-publicised mental breakdown, which culminated in her shaving her head.
This came after the singer, who was only 25 years old at the time, filed from divorce from her husband of three years Kevin Federline. The ensuing custody battle, regarding their two sons, Sean and Jayden Preston, clearly took a toll on the young star.
However, in the years since, Britney has demonstrated that she’s made a full recovery. In fact, the only negative press that we’ve had of late, doesn’t concern Britney at all but a man who rushed the stage of her Piece of Me show at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. And boy, was it scary.
The 35-year-old had just performed her 1999 smash hit (You Drive Me) Crazy when the man approached the stage. Britney, who appeared to be unaware of what was going on at first, started wooing the crowd, approaching fans to ask them if they were enjoying themselves at the concert.
Just take a look at the video below…
Luckily, Britney’s loyal army of backup dancers and security team had noticed something was wrong and proceeded to completely surround her, ensuring that she was protected from any threat. A small group of dancers even tried to quieten the man and keep him away from the pop-star.
Britney was understandably shaken from the incident, and TMZ have reported that her knees actually buckled after seeing everything go down. In the video she can be heard asking her security guard, “has he got a gun?”
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police released a statement on Thursday, confirming that the man who was arrested for trespassing was 37-year-old Jesse Webb.
Speaking to E!, Larry Hadfield, an officer from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police stated: “Webb was asked to leave the concert by security prior to him jumping on stage and dancing.” He continued, “Webb was transported to the Clark County Detention Center. There is no further information regarding this arrest.”
Police officials have also clarified that no weapons were found on the individual at the time of his arrest. Yikes, if that doesn’t put you off performing, I don’t know what would. However, die-hard Britney fans can rest assured that Britney will be back at her Planet Hollywood home soon enough. She is scheduled to perform her Piece of Me residency at the Las Vegas location on Friday.
