So far in 2017, one of the big stories in the music world is that of Beyoncé’s second pregnancy. Having given birth to her first child with husband Jay-Z back in 2012, the pop star took to Instagram in February to announce that she was pregnant with twins in a typically understated, low-key manner. Beyoncé’s maternity photoshoot has produced some of the defining images of 2017 so far, with the original post being liked eight million times in 24 hours to become the most-liked Instagram post ever.
The former Destiny’s Child star performed at the Grammy Awards two weeks after the announcement, but since then, Beyoncé has stayed under the radar, cancelling her planned Coachella performance scheduled in April. In mid-June, multiple sources (including father Mathew Knowles) reported that Beyoncé had given birth to twins, but we weren’t sure of the sex of the babies, or even their names.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z have so far chosen to keep their counsel on the birth and now, we can kind of see why. Beyoncé has taken once more to Instagram to announce not only the birth, but also the names of the latest additions to the Carter family.
It’s been one month since Beyoncé gave birth to twins at a hospital in Los Angeles. Since then, we’ve had a chance to enjoy Jay-Z’s new album entitled 4:44, which was critically acclaimed, going platinum in under a week. Now though, Beyoncé’s taken the spotlight back from her husband in another spectacular photoshoot.
Cradling her newborn twins in her arms while standing triumphantly in another extravagant maternity outfit, Beyoncé’s message to her 104 million Instagram followers was simple: “Sir Carter and Rumi 1 month today.” Yes, it appears those are the new additions to the Carter family, and with it hitting a million Instagram likes in just 23 minutes (and over three million in just three hours), it looks like Beyoncé will beat her own Instagram record fairly soon too.
The online community is somewhat divided on this latest baby revelation. Some are understandably excited to see the new babies, not to mention learn their names. Others are slightly critical of the extravagant nature of the reveal, and don’t seem to be a big fan of Sir Carter or Rumi as baby names.
It’s also been suggested that Beyoncé and Jay-Z have filed trademark documents at the US Patent and Trademark Office. The couple have reportedly trademarked both names for use on fragrances, cosmetics, water bottles, and tote bags, among other things.
Beyoncé’s latest reveal has certainly captured the attention of the internet, and regardless of what you think of the extravagant Instagram post, it’s hard to argue that this is out of character for the singer, or that it hasn’t gone down well with her many fans. Welcome to the world, Sir Carter and Rumi! Though personally, I’m not Crazy in Love with the names.
