What would you do if you saw a wedding party that contained a 65-year-old groom and a 12-year-old bride? Well the people of New York were forced to confront that very question thanks to a social experiment held in Times Square. Designed to raise awareness about child brides all over the world, this was the brainchild of YouTube star Coby Persin.
Angry New Yorkers asked pressing questions of the would-be groom, with some ever threatening violence. "This is bulls***! This is not right!" one man says. "And I’m sure if we called the cops, you would get locked up!"
The legal age of marriage differs around the world and in some countries parental consent is changes the age. In some US states the age is as low as 12 for girls and 14 for boys. In the UK it is 16. The age is ten in Sudan under certain religions.

Despite that fact this is all put on for the benefit of the cameras, it's refreshing that New Yorkers stood their ground. Sadly though with the laws being what they are, there are girls getting married off with nobody around to help them. Fingers crossed Persin's video can raise some awareness of the plight of young women and stop a few being forced into criminal marriages.
