Dogs don’t just make wonderful pets, but they also make the greatest friends humans can have. When people say that dogs are a man’s best friend, it’s not just a catchphrase – it’s true. As a dog owner, and am not only disgusted, but shocked to see how some people can treat dogs and other animals in such a heartless manner, disregarding their rights as living creatures, and treating them like dirt.
Although some of these before images will be difficult to look at, the after pictures will bring a tear of joy and relief to your eye, and it proves that with some love, care and attention, dogs can overcome such cruelty and once again live a happy life.

That right here is approximately two pounds of matted fur, which had to be shaved off Ellen due to the fact it was matted all the way down to the roots. Thankfully, you can’t even recognise her after she was freed from her fur, and now she is finally healthy enough to be adopted by a loving family.
Just looking at the before picture of Cedar is painful. Not only had he gone weeks without a proper meal, but the stressed he suffered caused him to lose his fur. With his bones sticking out of his flesh, the vets knew they had to act quick to save his life. Cedar survived, and as you can see, since being adopted by a loving family, he looks happy and healthy.
Alana was dumped on the streets, with fur so matted you couldn’t even see her face. She was unable to see, breathe or eat properly. However, after being treated by her local animal centre, the vets discovered a young and lively dog. Just look at her today, loving her fancy scarf.

Vita was first discovered in a Los Angeles junk yard and is only weighing 70 pounds, and quite frankly was battling to survive. Although it took him months of veterinary care and feeding off a healthy diet, he is now as reliable and healthy as he should be. The soft grass sure is a big difference from the scrap heap.
The first two photos were of Iggy when he was fund back in Mexico. He was living with a horrendous eye infection. Thanks to the wonders of Social Media, Iggy received a lot of donations that helped him to get transported in the United States to get medical attention. Named Shrek by the veterinary staff because of his scary appearance, but kind heart, he was first discovered with one of the most neglected coats the staff had ever seen. After a trim, a bath, and some love and attention, they found an adorable 6-year old malti-poo under all that fur.
Woody was left on his own after his owner sadly passed away. After the stark shock of being alone, he ran away and lived under some floorboards. The poor pooch was found blind in one eye, filthy and scared. After being treated by the animal rescue shelter, he was later adopted by a loving family.

Sadly, Betty was abandoned by her owner, and left to wander the streets, scavenging for food and water in order to survive. Just look at the sadness in the before picture. Some people don’t realise dogs can become as heartbroken and depressed as humans can…
When Charlie was first brought into the animal rescue shelter, he was repeatedly rejecting his food and was too depressed to move. When Leela was first brought into the animal shelter, she refused to part from the one toy she was found with. It was clearly the only thing she had left of her previous owners, but after she was adopted, she soon realised her new home offered more love and care than she had ever received. And they had a huge backyard, which she loved.
When Tyson was found, he was healthy, but severely depressed. Even in the animal shelter, he struggled to bond with anyone. Tyson certainly wasn’t the most “attractive” dog up for adoption, but one family saw so much in him, and, after a few weeks living in his knew home, he soon had a huge smile on his face.
Sophia was actually still without a name when she was adopted by one of the very heartless dog pounds in the US. Realising she needed rescuing, the adoptive owner said that the after photo was taken only two months after she was taken in and she can’t stop grinning!
Griffin had spent A LONG time living in animal pounds, that when he was adopted, he was only a week away from being euthanised. Fortunately though, he is now living with a happy family and is proof that a healthy dog should never be put down.

Although it is a relief that there are so many kind and loving shelters out there who are ready and willing to nurse neglected and abused dogs back to health, we can’t forget the thousands of dogs who are still without a forever home. Remember, a dog will change you life as much as you change theirs, so please, so and adopt a dog today and show one of these animals what a fulfilling life is!
