Although we know that having a lot of money won’t necessarily make us happy, it can certainly help to know you have a secure future and that you’ll never be in financial difficulties for as long as you live.
Wealth is something that most of us aspire to have, but few of us will ever achieve.
But Shane Missler, a 20-year-old man from Florida, has done something that most of us will only ever dream of doing. And it has a little something to do with the $451 million currently sitting in his bank account.
He won the huge sum of money on the Mega Millions lottery jackpot last Friday and has now vowed to do “good for humanity”.
Just minutes after finding out he had won his fortune, he updated his Facebook status writing “Oh. My. God”. Soon enough the post was flooded with thousands of likes and comments.
Before becoming a multi-millionaire, Missler was working at a company which carries out employment background checks.
But one decision to buy a scratch card from a 7-Eleven store changed his financial position beyond belief and he immediately resigned from the position.
Missler is perfectly aware that because he is so young, people expect him to spend his winnings recklessly.
“I’m only 20, but I hope to use it to pursue a variety of passions, help my family and do some good for humanity,” Missler revealed in a statement.
Yes, Missler is very young, which makes the story all the more incredible.
However, an even more unlikely demographic to win the lottery are those who don’t have a single dime to their name let alone hundreds of millions of dollars.

As soon as Missler found out about his winnings, he called his brother and shared the incredible news with his father the next morning over breakfast.
“Although I’m young I’ve had a crash course this week in financial management and I feel so fortunate to have this incredible wealth and team behind me,” he revealed.
He also told the Tampa Bay Times, “I intend to take care of my family, have some fun along the way and cement a path for financial success so that I can leave a legacy far into the future.”
Against the odds, Missler’s ticket matched the five winning numbers (28, 30, 39, 59, and 70) and the “Mega Ball” number (10) which were drawn on January 5.
And as if the story wasn’t incredible enough, it turns out that the win was the fourth-largest in the US game’s history.
Interestingly, although Missler could have received the full amount ($451 million) over a longer period of time, he decided he’d rather just receive $282 million in a one-off payment, missing out on $169 million.
Either way, Missler is now a remarkably wealthy man.
“If there is one thing I have learned thus far in my short time on this earth it is that those who maintain a positive mindset and stay true to themselves get rewarded,” Missler continued. “I look forward to the future.”
Well, it’s a future that many of us wish we could have! Congratulations to Missler for scoring such eye-watering winnings. Here’s hoping he spends it wisely.
